Brandstationen Art Center hereby declare a state of cultural emergency requiring the reopening of the gamla brandstationen i Järna for the purpose of fueling and igniting fires of the contemporary artistic kind.

As the regional hotspot, Brandstationen aims to warm the local community with the fire of creative passion. The fire brigade pledge to encorage heated debate about the phenomena of our time, questions of art and society, and to assist young and emerging artists in play with matches.

As our national network of fire lines continues to spread, we aim to be an intermediator and experimental playground between emerging artists, art school graduates and the established art institutions of Stockholm and further afield.

Through the International artist in residence program we will invite bright sparks to reside and create in Brandstationen for a set period of time, with the possibility of exhibiting their hot experimental works. We will also endevour to start spot fires at interesting locations around the world to spread this fire back and forth forever.

The gallery is the harth fire of Brandstationen, stoaked intermitantly by co-conspiring piromaniacs, this fire is to be fed exclusively with experimental works, a testing ground for greater explosions.

The workshop and studios are the laboritories of the project. Please be warned that accidents may occur, these spaces are rife with fire hazards.

The top floor residence, for the safety of all inhabitants, will remain fire proof, but incase of creative emergency, express access to studios is available via The Pole.

As an environmentally conscience brigade, it is our aim to maintain a minimum carbon footprint with a maximum artistic outcome.

Currently the areas of sculpture, installation, performance and interactive art is where the fire is at, but there is no telling which way the winds may turn. We encourage the greater community to inform Brandstationen of any sightings of extraordinary burning embers for future collaboration.
